Nearly every toddler group round here runs in the morning, so afternoons are mostly open air. One proper group on Monday, and the rest is parks, ducks and woodland.

Big ships going past, ducks and swans on the lake, a playground, and the old fort to clamber round. Flat the whole way, so a scooter for her and the buggy for him both work.

Fifteen acres with a proper sensory corner — wooden play things, musical bits, insect hotels. Much quieter than the riverside, which is the whole point on a Wednesday.
Good for a two-year-old who's woken up from a nap in a mood, and there's enough climbing to keep a four-year-old going.

Jeskyns — the Gruffalo play area, wide flat paths, sheltered benches and a café for a takeaway coffee. Entry is free; you're only paying to park. £2.70 for two hours, £3.60 for the day.
Afternoons are the quiet half here — the dog walkers and the buggy crowd have gone home.
